The Final Journey Begins Another Lenten season has begun. No doubt with a New Year’s Resolution-like list of things that the faithful will give up. The texts will get darker and darker as Jesus journey’s closer to the end of His earthly ministry and His final suffering and horrible execution upon the Cross. We walk this journey in the texts and in our Lenten worship practices to remind ourselves what the ultimate cost of God’s Grace was. It was the blood of His own Son. One of the main reasons that we put together a laundry list of “sacrifices” is to help us remember this cost and to repent of the many ways we have failed to respond adequately to the price that Jesus paid for our salvation. It is also an opportunity to “reenlist” as it were. We can recommit ourselves to a better response and hopefully become better servants of our Lord (and our neighbor) and better witnesses to His Good News.
